Shoulder surgery is taken up to treat this most complex and unstable joint that is prone to being easily malfunctioned by minute injuries or overuse of this joint. The techniques that are adopted by the shoulder surgeon or specialist range from minimal invasive techniques to in length complex surgeries. Over the period of years revolutionary changes have taken place in the shoulder surgery methodologies and damaged tendons or muscles are repaired painlessly.
Shoulder joint comprises of three bones humerus, scapula and clavicle anchored by a framework of muscles, ligaments and tendons. This is the only joint that allows movements in 360 degree i.e. move forward, backward and sideways and the reason why the joint is so unstable and susceptible to injuries leading to non functioning of the shoulder joint.
Which signifies Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. If these techniques fail to bring relief to the shoulder, shoulder surgery methods are undertaken to rehabilitate the inactive shoulder which has been affected by dislocations, fractures, rotator cuff tear, tendinitis, bursitis, frozen shoulder or arthritis.
With AIIMS and The Medanta Institute of Bone and Joints, as his forte Dr. Gupta needs no introduction in the field of upper extremity with a background of 20 years experience and more than 6000 surgeries to his credit. Calm and soothing he handles his patients mental trauma with tact and after an in depth analysis and evaluation adopts treatment techniques that provide immediate relief to the patient.
Dr. Gupta after completing MBBS and MS in Ortho from All India Institute of Medical Sciences has also been to Germany and USA to delve further into the complexities that create severe problems to upper limbs to enable him to serve his patients with passion and sincerity with relative international techniques.
Case operated by Dr. Vikas Gupta covered by National Geographic Team for serial "Emergency Room". This video highlights careless attitude can lead to grievous injuries which can lead to permanent disability and these if treated properly on time can bring back person towards normal life.....
Anti inflammatory oral medicines are the first step towards treating a mild problem which can be supported by steroid injections if required to provide immediate relief with therapy exercises to relax and stretch the muscles to enable them to restore lost mobility. If these basic and conservative techniques prove ineffective Dr. Gupta opts for insertion of plasma rich platelet injections which is relatively the most effective non surgical technique.
For frozen shoulder the basic treatment technique is the distention or manipulation technique whereby the orthopedic tries to maneuver the joint by repositioning and gently rotating it to provide flexibility to the lost muscles in the joint with mild therapy exercises to support it.
Distension Technique is another method undertaken to treat pain and impairing condition where the shoulder is brought back los mobility by inserting a mixed injection of corticosteroid, saline and local anesthesia.
To relieve the patient of painful condition caused by sprains and strains or an injury that is mild in severity is treated by the shoulder doctor by injecting a steroidal injection into the joint to bring down the debilitating conditions prevailing in it.
Under this technique the arthritic or damaged part of the shoulder joint is replaced or resurfaced by an artificial part or prosthesis. It can be both total or partial replacement and may be recommended by the orthopedics in severe cases of degenerative diseases or fractures.
Is a keyhole surgery performed by an Arthroscope ( a long thin tube that has an optic lens or camera and displays images on a monitor) to enable the orthopedics to perform this invasive shoulder surgery.
Metal pins, screws, rods or plates are undertaken as tools of shoulder surgery technique for separated and broken bones which need to be fixed together. After implanting these metal hardware the bones are joint together and then immobilized by a splint or external bracing till the damage is healed.
In case of rotator cuff tear when tendon gets damaged the technique of Tissue Grafting is undertaken and the damaged tendon is replaced by tendon taken out from another part of the body.
Bursectomy is a procedure that is undertaken to repair the damaged bursa sac which essentially provides cushioning to the shoulder joint.
